Welcome to our blog. This is an extension of our Sailing Evenstar blog which was started while we sailed aboard our Catalina 25 'Evenstar'. For sometime we have known we would be moving to a larger boat as our hope has been to cruise the Great Lakes and, eventually, head down the Inter Coastal Waterway to head to the southern climes.

Our search for a larger boat has been narrowed down the past few years to something in the mid 30's to 40 foot range, preferably with a center cockpit layout. For the boat to be in our price range we figured it would have to be a mid 1980's to a late 1990's model. While we were not too concerned with the keel configuration (i.e. the performance vs. stability trade offs), we did want the draft of the boat to be 5'6" or less...any deeper and we would be too limited in getting into certain cruising areas. In the past year some of the models available we were looking at that seemed like they would fit the bill were the Pearson 385, the S2 35C, the S2 11.0C, the Morgan/Catalina 38 and a couple of models made by Irwin (37 and 38). We were still at least considering aft-cockpit models such as the Pearson 36-2 and the Catalina 34 along with others.

In future posts I will go over what we went through from finding our boat to viewing and eventually purchasing ADAMA.
